Meeting the Minister - APC Event
On Tuesday, May 12, the Agricultural Producers' Commission (APC) hosted an insightful meet-and-greet event with the reappointed Minister for Agriculture and Food, the Honorable Jackie Jarvis MLC. Held at DPIRD head office, Nash Street, East Perth, the gathering aimed to open dialogue and strengthen relationships between key stakeholders in Western Australia's agriculture. This event was a pivotal opportunity for APC committee representatives to engage directly with the Minister, sharing the pressing challenges and noteworthy successes that define their industries.
Dignitaries, including APC Chair Monica Radomiljac Heather Brayford, the Director General of the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD), Cec McConnell, the Deputy Director General, and Rohan Prince, the Director of Horticulture, were in attendance. Their presence underscored the importance of this event as various industry representatives shared their visions for the future through their respective Strategic Plans. These plans outlined clear strategies, some ambitious objectives, and practical tactics designed to ensure long-term sustainability and enhanced profitability for growers.
During her address, Minister Jarvis emphasised each industry's critical role in the state’s food security. She highlighted the unique position of the APC in Western Australia, noting how it empowers growers to take the lead in directing and funding initiatives that effectively address their specific needs and foster the overall growth of their industries.
Pomewest sincerely thanks the APC team, especially CEO Catherine O'Keeffe, for organising such a successful and impactful session. The enthusiasm and engagement reflected in the conversations are expected to make this event an annual highlight. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the industry's committed growers, committee members, and supportive friends who attended and enriched the dialogue, a collaborative spirit crucial for agriculture's future, particularly for horticulture within the State.
